Anyone know about a laptop sleeper?

Before anyone points out that this is not a sleeper laptop, let me clarify: the frame is a Latitude E6420, but the components are from the higher-end Latitude E6430 with NVIDIA integrated graphics. None of these parts were designed to fit together, yet they offer significant performance improvements and support for 3rd-gen processors. I had to modify the support frames on the center and left sides to make it work. Honestly, there was no practical reason for doing this except for the sentimental value this laptop holds for me. In the end, I’ve spent about as much as it would cost to buy a new laptop with three times the power.

Specs:

  • 3rd-gen i7 motherboard (I can’t remember the exact model I bought :sob:)
  • 16GB of RAM from an old iMac
  • NVIDIA NVS 5200M discrete graphics
  • 500GB Seagate HDD (I’ll upgrade to an SSD once Windows 10 is no longer supported)
  • Windows 10 OS

Whoa, this seems like a unique project I guess I have never seen one like it before.

That black ram looks nice, though. I’m strange. I gather random tech, for any purpose. I even discovered sporadic PCBs on the ground.

Well done, but after all this work, you didn’t even install an SSD? Windows 10 needs to be nearly unusable from an HDD, particularly one from a laptop.

Regards, you I realize this, I realize this, but it’s surprisingly useful. It loads into Windows in around 6 seconds. As soon as 10 stops supporting me, I’ll get one.

When computers first came out, they were a little thicker to fit a proper 97wh battery.

Yes, far, far more power
