Just wondering if this is normal. I’ve owned about 10 MacBooks and never noticed this before. Got this one refurbished online.
If it’s one of the older MacBooks with the light-up logo, then yes. That logo is just a frosted cutout in the back panel that gets lit up by the LCD’s backlight.

Good to know, thanks!
That’s actually why Apple stopped making the glowing logo. Newer screens are thinner, and even a bit of light could affect the display quality.

Honestly, they could’ve just made the laptops a bit thicker. Nobody really asked for ultra-thin laptops at the cost of performance and looks.
@Phoenix
True. If you want a slightly thicker laptop with better features, check out ThinkPads. The market adjusts based on what people buy.

Exactly! I loved the glowing logo and even considered getting an older MacBook with it. I also miss the touch bar; that was a neat feature too.

Not a huge Apple fan, but I also liked the touch bar. It was unique.

They stopped it because the new mini-LED displays don’t have backlighting to power the glowing logo.
Yep, that logo is basically a cutout in the back cover, and the screen’s backlight shines through it to make it glow.

Thanks for the explanation!
That’s why they don’t do the glowing logo anymore.
This brings back memories! My old MacBook did the same thing.
The Apple symbol is basically like a window. When the screen is off, light just passes through it.
Wow, I didn’t think this design could affect the screen.
Yep, totally normal for your Mac.
Interesting. My 2014 and 2015 MacBook Airs both do this, but my 2013 MacBook Pro doesn’t. It only shows the logo briefly when waking up from sleep. Still love that glowing logo!
It’s actually a cool feature! My friend’s MacBook does the same thing.
Yeah, the glowing logo is just a cutout. The backlight of the display lights it up, but you can still see it when it’s off.
The glowing Apple logo is literally just a hole in the aluminum. The light you see comes from the screen’s backlight.
