Are these temperatures normal for a gaming laptop?

Hello! This is my first gaming laptop and I’m not sure if the temperatures I’m seeing are normal. It’s currently idle with no programs open, just Speccy running. It tends to get quite hot and noisy when playing high-graphics games, and sometimes there’s a faint smoky smell. I’ve checked the vents and they’re clear. I also use a stand for better airflow. Is this typical for gaming laptops? Also, how can I reduce the temperatures when playing intense games, and is the smell something to worry about?

It’s worth checking inside the laptop for dust build-up in the vents even if they seem clear from the outside.

These temperatures are pretty typical. Gaming laptops can get very hot, even reaching close to 100 degrees Celsius.

39 degrees is perfectly safe for a laptop, that’s pretty cool actually.

What about gallium?

You don’t have a laptop made out of gallium, do you?

@Pax
Yes, I do. Why are you asking?

We all know that’s Celsius, not Fahrenheit, right?

@Pax
It’s perfect. If the laptop overheats, it won’t be a laptop anymore.

Celsius, that’s 102f

It actually looks good. Temps kinda low for a laptop, when I’m playing my laptop can average high 70s and sometimes would reach up to low 80s.

Laptops and any heat producing computer part with fans gives of that typical smell, it might just be dust and grease evaporating what you smell. These seem to be relatively normal temperatures for idle, if your fans are not (or quietly) spinning. If you feel comfortable you could open it and have a look, but these temps seem fine. What temps do you reach during high intensity usage?

@Addison
The intel core seems to around 80 degrees Celsius and the GPU is around 73 degrees Celsius. The laptop also gets pretty loud. Are those normal temps? Right now I’m playing Palworld which is a high intense graphic game.

@Aris
nothing unusual. it’d be weird if they were lower under load

@Aris
thats normal mine go higher than that but thats cuz of other issues

@Aris
Thats pretty good for a laptop. Most gaming laptops are going to almost 100c but its totally normal. If you google your exact cpu and go to the official intel site you will see that its totally normal

@Aris
Perfectly fine those temps under high load.
Keep an eye on it.
Also don’t really need to worry , your laptop won’t just break when getting too hot. Worst case when it gets too hot is that thermal throttling is happening. Your laptop will reduce its performance temporarily to bring down the temperature. That could temporarily result in fps drops.
Very worst case is that your laptop reboots or shuts down to prevent damage from overheating. But it won’t suddenly explode or damage , don’t worry

Edit, also don’t need to worry about the fan noise. It’s normal. Unfortunately, windows laptops are known for being loud and hot. It’s really annoying (at least for me, others don’t care) but like I said it’s normal.

The max temperature for a 13620H is 100C, so as long as it’s below this under load it’s fine, use HWINFO64 to measure temperatures while gaming as it will also show hotspot temp and gpu memory temps. The GPU shouldn’t be quite as high, but below 80C at full load in a gaming laptop is good, at 85C+ I’d be looking for ways to improve cooling

As you’re using the laptop on a stand it’s very unlikely to overheat, the CPU and GPU will lower their speeds if they hit the manufacturer’s max temperatures to reduce heat, however good airflow is important so don’t game with the laptop on a bed blocking the vents

If you look at reviews of your laptop model they’ll usually include temperatures while idle and under load for you to compare to yours and check you’re in the right range

if on idle around 30-50jsh is normal, while gaming, expect it to reach 90s depending on how intensive the game is

Best to bring it to laptop shop to see
