How do I turn off this bright screen light?

There’s a light at the back of the screen that’s really bright and seems like it’s draining my battery. I couldn’t find help online since everything seems to focus on keyboard backlights. Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this?

If you can’t turn it off, maybe try covering it with electrical tape.

Is that the only solution?

Not really, duct tape is another option if you prefer something sturdier.

@Zoren
You could paint over it, but that seems a bit extreme and might not look great.

Happy cake day!

Does the brightness change when you adjust the screen’s backlight?

No, it stays the same.

Check your BIOS for an option to adjust its brightness. I can change the brightness of my laptop’s power button through the BIOS, maybe yours has a similar setting.

If it’s too distracting, you could put a sticker over it. It probably doesn’t use much battery, so it should be fine.

If you’re comfortable with it, you could disassemble the laptop, find the connector for the light, and disconnect it if there’s no software option available.

This is really the best answer if you don’t want an ugly tape fix.

Just put some tape over it.

Try pressing ‘Fn + L’, it might work.

If I were you, I’d just open it up and cut the wires to that light.

Check your PC Manager software for any settings that might control this light. It’s mainly there for visual appeal and to show the computer is on.
