Important Tip: Protect Your Laptop in Your Backpack!

Always ensure your backpack has sufficient padding at the bottom. I learned the hard way when I found a dent near the USB port of my $2000 laptop. Fortunately, I managed to fix it with pliers, but I’m not risking it again. I’ve temporarily added towels for extra padding until I get a specialized laptop bag. Learn from my mistake and protect your tech!

I’ve had a similar experience with a new messenger bag and my MacBook in 2008. I ended up needing to replace the display, and the battery lid never fit right again. Despite that, my MacBook is still going strong—it’s a constant reminder to handle my bag carefully.

Is that 2008 MacBook still running?

Yes, it runs either Parrot OS or MacOS Ventura depending on which SSD I install. It’s still quite functional!

That’s impressive! Any issues with web browsing speed or compatibility?

@Keller
Not really. The only drawback is the outdated display resolution, but it handles browsing, some coding, and streaming on Prime Video quite well.

It has 6GB of DDR3 RAM, so it’s not the fastest, but I adore it. I’ll share a picture when I’m in the office later.

I’m glad I use a Thinkpad—they’re built tough.

A true man of culture!

I’ve added foam packing material to my laptop’s compartment. These areas should really come with more padding. Large capacity backpacks often skimp on laptop protection, which is a big risk.

I’ve never been careful with my $1200 HP laptop, and after 5 years, it’s still in perfect condition. How do you guys manage to damage yours so easily?

I didn’t break anything, really. My laptop is made of aluminum, which just got bent. Other than that, it’s been very durable. Plastic laptops definitely don’t last as long.
