I use my laptop in a unique setup to save space. Is this position okay, or could it potentially damage my laptop?
Be careful when you’re gaming intensely; it’s easy to accidentally knock it over in the heat of the moment.
It’s fine as long as the cooling fans aren’t obstructed.

The fans are actually less obstructed in this setup than they would be normally.
Consider the stress on the hinges from supporting the screen like this, it might not be ideal for long periods.

It’s probably okay for short durations but not something I’d recommend all the time.
@Tru
Thanks, I’ll limit how long I keep it like this, mainly concerned about overheating and hinge stress.

Hinges are designed to hold the screen; as long as you’re not moving it around too much or hanging the screen from the bezel, it should be fine.
@Reese
Over time, even normal positions can wear out hinges, especially in a setup like this where there might be extra stress.

Hinges are robust if not tampered with. I wouldn’t worry about them breaking under normal conditions.
@Reese
Long-term, it could reduce the lifespan of the hinges, accelerating wear.
@Reese
The constant stress could lead to faster wear and tear. It’s just physics.
Consider a monitor and a vertical laptop stand instead; you can set up both for under $150.
Sure, as long as it feels stable and the ventilation isn’t compromised.
Watch out for those laptop edges! They can be sharp when gaming gets intense.
Better ventilation than having it lay flat, as long as it’s stable.
Doesn’t that angle strain your neck after a while?
Are you connecting to an external monitor, or is this your main display setup?
It looks risky. I’d be worried about it slipping off.
As long as the laptop’s cooling is efficient in this position, it should be okay.
