Wow, that’s an impressive 17-year-old laptop in such great shape. The new one is a huge upgrade.

In some games, I jumped from 30 or 40 fps on medium settings to nearly 300 fps on max settings.
@Remy
Keep this guy out of the Winlator forum… he’s one determined person!
@Remy
I’m surprised you didn’t go from 3-4 fps to 300 fps. That old laptop is really ancient.
Also, I can’t believe you kept it in such good shape. Most people, myself included, would struggle to do that. Kudos to you.

Wow, 17 years old!
You really know how to take care of your laptop. I had a Compaq Presario CQ 42, which is over 16 years old.
I upgraded from an HP Pavilion dv7 with a Core 2 Duo and a 9600m GT (running Windows 10)
to a secondhand HP Victus with an i7 12700h and a 3060.

Does that old HP have a touchscreen?
@Haim
No, but there’s a glass screen in front of the panel, which makes it look a bit odd.

I see, for its age, it actually looks really nice in my opinion.

How’s the Victus treating you so far?
@Palmer
I got it on Sunday. It was heating up a lot, so I checked some forum posts. The CPU was hitting over 90 degrees, but the GPU was fine. I turned off CPU boost and dropped the temp by about 20 degrees. I don’t understand why manufacturers include that feature. I don’t see any performance difference. So far, it’s great; the screen quality is a huge upgrade. I watched a movie on it yesterday, and it was fantastic. Right now, I’m playing Hogwarts Legacy, Far Cry 2, and AC Competizione.
I heard those HPs had a recalled Nvidia chip, so it’s amazing it’s still working.

It still runs Far Cry 2 pretty well since I added an SSD.
I was wondering why the HP Victus looks so thick. It’s good for you.
Enjoy your gaming!

Yes, I have a cooling pad underneath it. I feel like I can finally see the screen properly.
@Remy
Not that, I meant by looking at the first pic. I suggest you get a good laptop cooling stand or an affordable one to elevate it.
Those old Pavilions were really something. So many ports, a nostalgic screen, and a trackpad the size of a playing card.

And don’t forget the integrated remote
Wow, that brings back memories. I had the exact same laptop as my first computer.
