Is this warning legitimate

Should I be worried? Is this real?

No, your laptop might have a problem now. That message at the bottom right saying ‘you have a virus’ is likely a virus itself. Avoid clicking on it.

It looks like you might need to reinstall your operating system.

I ran a scan with my antivirus software afterward and everything seems fine for now. I accidentally clicked on it a couple of times though.

@Robin
There’s no need to reinstall your operating system; the issue seems to be confined to your browser.

This is not just within the browser. Check the taskbar, you have antivirus software active.

@Joss
It is within the browser. The user has antivirus installed, but that popup is from a fake website displayed in the browser. I’ve encountered this type of issue before.

@Robin
Relying on that antivirus might not be the best idea. Windows Defender is sufficient for most needs.

@Robin
The notifications are a scam. To get rid of them, go to your browser settings, select privacy and security, site settings, then notifications, find the suspicious site, and remove it.

@Robin
Windows Defender and Malwarebytes are all you need for protection.

Ah, that sounds like ransomware. I managed to remove one by booting into safe mode and running malware removal software from there.

This issue is entirely within the browser, it’s not related to ransomware.

This is why you should avoid risky websites, everyone.

I was trying to download some mods for a game from a site called Modland.

I’ve downloaded mods for that game before without any issues. It might not be the mods.

I’ve never heard of Modland, so it might be the website that’s the problem.

It seems like what you downloaded included malware. You could try to remove it with antivirus software, but sometimes it’s easier just to reinstall your operating system. This particular popup seems to be trying to deceive your browser. Be very cautious about where you download mods from in the future.

No, this warning isn’t real. Go to your browser settings, click on the three dots, and disable notifications from that site. Never allow notification permissions from any site that asks.

Definitely not. You should consider reinstalling your system as soon as possible and disconnect it from the internet to avoid further issues.

The notification on the right is generated from an infected website via your browser. Just go to your browser settings and clear permissions for all sites, and it’ll go away. It’s not a real virus, just a fake notification. Be more cautious about the sites you visit and what you click on.
