My grandson needs a laptop for schoolwork

Hello guys, I am posting this message in the internet because my grandson needs a new laptop for schoolwork after he says the other one he has is too slow and it doesn’t work properly. I don’t know much about computers and gadgets, but my grandson told me to get this computer. I can’t afford this but my son insisted that he will bring up his grades more because he can get more schoolwork done quickly. Does anyone know if I can get a cheaper computer elsewhere because I really can’t afford this and any help is appreciated.

I’mThis is such a classic kid move - pretending that they need a gaming laptop for school work. This is an extremely powerful gaming laptop but it would not even be that good for schoolwork because it sacrifices battery life for gaming performance.

What’s your budget?

If you just want a general recommendation I like the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 (it’s premium, has great battery life, has a fast CPU, and would be great for schoolwork: Amazon.com: Microsoft Surface Laptop (2024), Windows 11 Copilot+ PC, 13.8" Touchscreen Display, Snapdragon X Plus (10 core), 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Storage, Black ) - this is just one option, there are options at every price point

@Campbell
my g15 games really well and I get used to get 7 hours on battery. it’s 4 years old and still get 5 hours on battery. if the kid is indeed Aldo wanting to game and probly is , kid gonna be disappointed lol

unironically I think this is one of the real case where a grandpa joined reddit to ask a genuine question lol

Just get businnes class instead of gaming class. They are around 900-1500€ and are THE best for schoolwork. Rightnow I have ASUS Expertbook, but my most favourite bussines class laptop are LENOVO Thinkpad. If you wanna make your grandsons wish come true but can’t afford this one, you can tell him to find gaming laptop or bussines class laptop that is in your budget and that way everyone is happy

I wouldn’t want to spend more than $2000

The laptop in the link would be a great option then - it’s $899 (it’s discounted right now) and would be awesome for schoolwork.

Here’s a more powerful version of that laptop that would also be good: Microsoft Surface Laptop Copilot+ Pc 13.8" Touchscreen Snapdragon X Elite 32gb Ram 1tb Ssd (7th Edition) Graphite : Target

@Campbell
I appreciate the help.

I showed it to my grandson, and he didn’t seem to like it but he also told me that you guys know a lot of information on the Reddit so I trust you. Thanks

@Ridge
He didn’t like it because it can’t play games well. It’s a good option for schoolwork though.

That having been said he’ll probably like this better because it’s good for gaming without being overpriced: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-zephyrus-g16-16-165hz-gaming-laptop-fhd-intel-13th-gen-core-i7-with-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4070-512gb-ssd-eclipse-gray/6572582.p

a macbook, good for school work, nice battery life

Schoolwork? You could launch a bloody space rocket with this thing.

I would recommend a MacBook,works great,long battery life

Get an older MacBook it may not be the newest but it will do great for schoolwork

That’s a full-fledged gaming laptop. He’s gonna be doing more gaming than work. That thing is top-tier. There’s only a handful with a 14 900 and a 4090 now granted we’re just around the corner from the 50 series graphics cards and the new Intel chips

This is overkill for a laptop for schoolwork. He definitely wants to game too. You can buy gaming laptops for less than 2 grand.

This is so common, kids lying to people that don’t know much about computers to take advantage of it. That laptop is purely for gaming and 3D Rendering and modelling. Your grandson is lying that this laptop will help him improve his grades, this is just for his gaming tasks. If he still wants to game while on an affordable price range, try out something like this:

*Lenovo Legion mid-range laptops (gaming)

*Microsoft Surface lineup (focused on school work and work)

*ASUS Zenbook (Business/Schoolwork and a few games)

*ASUS Zephyrus lineup (gaming)

Bro is trying to trick you lol, you don’t need and i9 and a 4090 for school, buy him what you can afford
