My laptop won't charge even though it's plugged in... any advice

I’m having trouble with my laptop not charging even when it’s connected to power. Can anyone help me out here

It might be battery protection mode. It prevents charging to extend battery life especially if it’s always plugged in.

That was the issue, and I’ve managed to fix it. Thanks!

I’ve seen settings that cap charging at 80%, but setting it at 60% is indeed rare. Limiting the maximum charge can help prolong battery life over years, but it also means having less battery power when you actually need it unplugged. Even if a battery degrades to 80% capacity after numerous charge cycles, it might still be worth using the full capacity throughout its lifespan rather than limiting it from the start.

@Will
Actually, keeping a battery at 50% charge is optimal for minimizing degradation.

Can you clarify your point? Generally, battery life degrades over time regardless of the charge level due to the number of cycles and how the battery is used and managed by the system.

@Will
I prefer keeping my battery at 60% as it’s enough for short-term use and helps the battery last longer. This approach works well if you don’t often need full battery capacity.

While that works for some, I need more flexibility with my laptop usage. It’s fascinating to see how varied experiences and settings can affect battery longevity.

It’s just battery saver mode trying to prevent damage from keeping it at 100% charge all the time.

Actually, that’s not the issue. I checked the settings.

Charging your laptop non-stop can harm the battery over time. I’ve seen laptops barely hold charge after a few years of constant power connection.

@Milan
I appreciate the insight! It’s my first laptop, so I’m still learning about proper care.

That’s common with all battery-powered devices.

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvotes, but thanks for the info!

Keeping a battery at high charge levels stores more energy, reducing its lifespan. It’s better for devices used mainly on power to have a lower max charge set.

@Nate
Thanks for the tip, very helpful!

Check out some safety tips online for managing battery health effectively.

There’s likely a setting that helps conserve the battery by limiting charging.
