Need Urgent Assistance with Laptop Choice

Consider whether you really need a laptop. If portability isn’t essential, you might have better options.

There’s more to consider than just raw benchmarks. AMD tends to handle thermals and battery life better, making it suitable for heavier workloads.

I would prefer Ryzen as it’s newer than the Intel model being considered.

If your budget is around $1700, you might want to consider laptops with either the Intel 14700hx or 14900hx CPUs, which perform well with the GTX 4060 GPU.

I’m leaning towards the GTX 4070 for its better long-term performance due to more CUDA, Tensor, and RT cores.

I would suggest avoiding Intel’s 13th and 14th gen CPUs based on their performance issues.

Both CPU options are quite similar in performance, so it might just come down to which is more affordable.

The website comparison doesn’t provide a realistic view since it’s based on paper specs. You should look for real-world benchmark tests for a better comparison.

Intel has had some stability issues; I wouldn’t trust their laptops. AMD would be a safer choice.

For a budget of $1700, avoid budget MSI models like Katana and Cyborg due to poor build quality. Instead, consider something like the Lenovo Legion, which offers solid performance and build quality for the price.

@Sage
I’ve heard about motherboard issues with older Lenovo models, and they’re over my budget on Amazon.

Some older models had issues, but they’ve been resolved. Are you shopping from India?

@Sage
Yes, I am.

Consider the ROG Strix G16; what specs are available for it?

It’s similar to the MSI but has an Intel i7 13650HX processor.

@Keaton
Definitely go with the Asus then. It’s generally better, though it does come with a 1080p resolution on a 16:10 screen. There’s a detailed review by Jarrod’s Tech that could be helpful.

Thanks, I’ll check out the review. I’m wary of ASUS’s build quality based on what I’ve heard, but it’s currently discounted, which makes it tempting.

@Keaton
The build quality of ASUS’s ROG line is generally good. I haven’t seen major complaints about the 2023 models except for minor issues like coil whine, which isn’t a dealbreaker.

Appreciate all the help! Almost made a big mistake.

@Keaton
This is a great discussion! Thanks everyone for the insights.
