I just got an HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop, model 14-fa0058AU. Right from the initial setup, I’ve noticed that the corners of the screen are brighter than the rest, showing uneven light distribution. Is this typical for this model, or should I be worried about a defect?
This is backlight bleed. It’s common but shouldn’t be excessive. If it seems too severe compared to other laptops, I’d recommend returning it. I’ve seen many laptops and would not keep one with significant backlight bleed.

30 laptops? What do you do that requires so many?

I work in IT. Managing around 30 laptops is quite typical in this field.

30’s just a small collection compared to the spare tech under most IT desks!

Camera photos can exaggerate how bad backlight bleed appears. It might not be as noticeable in person.
Backlight bleeding is a common issue with LCDs, though severity varies. If it bothers you significantly, considering a return or exchange might be best.
It’s common with IPS panels, but if it’s too distracting, you might want to consider a replacement.
Unfortunately, uneven backlighting is pretty standard with some HP models.
This kind of backlight bleed is typical for many screens and usually doesn’t impact the overall functionality of the laptop.
The screen bezel might be applying pressure on the LCD, causing this backlight bleed.
Typical for HP laptops, unfortunately.
Sometimes adjusting the screws that hold the LCD panel, if accessible, can alleviate some of the backlight bleed.
Since it’s a new purchase, I’d recommend asking for an exchange.
If it’s new and the backlight bleed is as bad as you describe, returning it would be advisable.
Some backlight bleed is normal, but excessive bleed can be a sign of a defect.
Designing completely bleed-free backlights is challenging. If it’s very noticeable, consider a replacement.
If the backlight bleed is noticeable and bothersome, it’s worth returning the laptop for a better unit.
Backlight bleed can worsen over time. If it’s already bad, it might be best to get it replaced.
Backlight bleed to this extent isn’t typical. A replacement would be justified.
