I just got a new HP Envy, and Windows Update is showing a ton of updates. Should I install all of them or are some unnecessary?
Yes, definitely install them.

Most updates in Windows Update are necessary for your PC to work correctly. There might be some additional apps included, but they’re usually harmless. If you don’t want some apps running at startup, you can disable them via Task Manager in the startup tab.
Yes, it’s normal for a new laptop to have updates, especially if it’s been in stock for a while.
No reason not to install updates unless you know one causes compatibility issues with something you use.

I’ve got one too, and I also use a flip phone!

Nice! Just bought an old IBM ThinkPad T43 for $70. Going to fix it up soon.

Retro tech is so expensive here in Asia. No eBay, unfortunately.
Yes, some of those updates are for drivers.
Install them if you want everything to work properly.
Yes, and also use the HP Updater tool for additional updates like drivers, BIOS, or software specific to your laptop.

These updates include drivers for your machine. You’ll need them.
If it’s a laptop, check for updates on the manufacturer’s website first. Windows updates can sometimes cause issues since they’re general. HP should have a tool for this.
