Prayers out to the lost ports…

*The evolution of MacBooks
It’s like natural selection. I’m not sure how MacBooks reproduce, but apparently, all those other ports weren’t necessary for their survival.

Nowadays, one port does it all, so why keep the others?
Not buying that, it’s provocation.

That’s not accurate at all.

It would be great if we could have more ports with uniform functionality and if all manufacturers agreed to standardize them.
@Noor
What!? I love having to carry around different cables and adapters just to make my setup work! I also enjoy pouring milk on my cereal, by the way.

A USB C hub does the job well, but not one port alone.

And how’s USB supposed to replace Ethernet?
I’d love a throwback ‘MacBook’ with lots of ‘legacy’ ports. It’d be chunkier, but imagine it with a huge battery and those efficient chips, and it just lasts forever. Left side with magsafe, thunderbolt, usb, hdmi, headphone jack. Right side with thunderbolt, usb, ethernet, and a full-sized SD card reader. Throw in upgradeable standard SSDs too.
@Sage
The newer models actually have a better selection of ports like SDXC, HDMI, headphone jack, MagSafe, and multiple Thunderbolt 4 ports. Still, they’ve ditched USB A.

Thunderbolt 5 offers speeds up to 120Gb/s if you’re using an M4 Pro/Max machine.

USB A is history, time to invest in some adapters! And honestly, USB A was always the worst.
@Harley
Actually, USB A was so terrible that it was only the most widely used port for almost three decades.

I can’t understand why. It was a terrible standard from the start. USB C is what we always should have had.
@Harley
A ‘universal’ port that’s not really universal. What a great idea!

Apple’s USB C ports are pretty universal though. They support USB4, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt 5. It’d be nice if they included dongles, but even without them, these ports are feature-rich compared to other laptops.
@Zane
The ports might be versatile, but you still need a compatible cable, and that’s where problems arise.

Maybe it’s time to move on from the past. The new standard is here to stay.

Sure, but all the cables look the same. I have several, including a couple of 240W USB-C cables and one Thunderbolt 4, and it’s way too easy to mix them up.
