I mean, what do you expect when you buy a laptop as thin as a USB Type A port? There are plenty of modern laptops with great port selections out there if you don’t mind a tiny bit more weight and thickness.
I’d assume it’s because many people don’t think about that until they need more ports, then they get upset.
How often do you really use more than about three ports? Most people just need a mouse, which many ultralight laptops can handle.
@Reece
I actually use three ports quite often, with my charger, mouse, and external HDD. So I get it.

I agree. If people need more ports but still want a slim laptop, they can just get a USB hub for about $3. Mine has 7 ports and weighs about as much as five sheets of paper.
@Ira
I see.
It’s like people who buy compact cars and then wish they had more space, pushing automakers to make the next version bigger, and bigger, until it finally gets to a size where a new smaller model fits what they originally wanted.

CR-V, too. The one that hit me was the Hyundai Kona. In 2023, it just fit in my driveway. Then for 2024, it got 7 inches longer and no longer fits in my driveway, so I had to remove it from my list.
@Teagan
It really makes no sense.
They often underestimate how many USB ports they really need. I keep a small USB hub in my bag.

That makes sense. I’m glad I have plenty of ports.
You don’t have to sacrifice ports for portability: https://gpd.hk/gpdpocket4

True that.

Lol, their promo material shows it running MacOS.

At first glance, it’s a strange choice…
While you might get an old MacOS image to work, it seems like way more hassle than it’s worth.
However, the optional KVM port can run a Mac system on the integrated display, so it’s not as wild as it sounds.
You can have it all; just look at ASUS. Dell and Lenovo think they’re clever with only two USB-Cs.

I own an Asus Vivobook and have never needed more ports. It has 2 Type C ports, one being a 40gbps USB 4, and 2 5gbps 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports. Plus, it has a full-size HDMI and an SD reader. For a laptop only 1.3cm thick, I think that’s pretty good.

Then there’s my Dell with every port you need: 2 USB-C, 2 USB-A, 1 HDMI, Ethernet, a MicroSD slot, and a SIM module.
That’s true, which is why I don’t usually buy laptops like that. But many times, there’s room for more ports, like most MacBooks could fit USB-A or at least a few more USB-Cs.
The Acer Swift Edge 16-inch weighs 1.2kg and has 2 USB-A and 2 USB-C ports. If they want to, they can make them thin and light with plenty of ports.
