That’s paper masking tape, likely added by someone who opened it up earlier. Manufacturers typically don’t use masking tape in laptops.

Yeah, manufacturers usually use black acetate cloth tape or yellow Kapton tape (often found in lower-end laptops).

Yeah, I figured.
Most likely, someone used it to secure cables or ensure connections are firm, possibly due to damage or improper routing.
I’m more curious about what’s up with the display—it looks like there’s a huge dent from the back! As for the tape, it’s likely added by someone who worked on it before. Normally, Kapton tape would be used, not masking tape.

I think it’s just a reflection, making it look like a bulge.
@Vance
It’s a reflection of a ceiling light.
@Vance
Lol, I thought the display had a weird protrusion too.
@Vance
The display is fine; it’s just a reflection of my ceiling light, haha.

Maybe the previous owner, who knows! I cleaned this thing thoroughly when I got it, just in case, haha.

Looks like a previous owner did a sloppy job upgrading or fixing something. Here’s how it should look: ifixit guide image.
