Why does my laptop 'overheat' when my temperatures are low?

I have an important event today and my laptop keeps overheating despite turning all settings down. Here are my temperatures:

Those temperatures seem normal. Are you experiencing loud fans during this, or does it occur under a heavy load?

About 30 minutes into using it, the laptop shuts down completely—screen off, fans off. I have to restart it every time.

@Reagan
It might be helpful to download and run hwinfo to monitor your system more closely.

Your reported temperatures are typical for normal operations. What exactly happens when you say it ‘overheats’?

It just shuts off after about 30 minutes, regardless of application intensity. It’s like it’s overheating, but the temps don’t indicate that.

@Reagan
I recommend using MSI Afterburner to keep an eye on your temperatures in real-time. This can help determine if it’s truly overheating or another issue.

Does it shut down as if it’s overheating? Could you clarify what happens exactly?

Yes, it shuts down completely. I need to reboot each time it happens, about 30 minutes into use.

@Reagan
You might want to monitor your system with something like the Armoury Crate overlay to watch the temperatures directly. How old is the laptop? It might be time for a maintenance check on your fans and thermal paste.

@Jules
It’s barely a year old. I cleaned the fans recently.

It sounds like you might need to replace the thermal paste. If you haven’t done that yet, it could be causing your overheating issues.

@Jules
I haven’t replaced the paste yet. Thanks for the suggestion!

I’m a bit confused, how do you know it overheats if the temperatures are low?

It feels like it’s overheating because it shuts down suddenly during use, but the temperatures are always low before it happens.

@Reagan
Make sure to check both CPU and GPU temperatures. Sometimes, one might be overheating without affecting the other.

I’ll double-check the GPU temperatures as well. Thanks for the tip!

Can you describe what happens when it ‘overheats’? Are there any error messages, or does it just feel hot?

No error messages, it just suddenly shuts down as if it were overheating, even though the temperature readings are low.

@Reagan
You might want to use HWMonitor to log your temperatures. This could help identify if the readings spike suddenly before it shuts down.
