Hey everyone,
I got a Lenovo LOQ 16" laptop recently, but the WiFi connection has been terrible for online gaming—lots of lag and packet loss.
I’m thinking of replacing the MediaTek 7921 with an Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6 card. Just wondering if that’s possible and if it’s the right form factor? Thanks for any help!

Yes, totally possible! Just make sure you download the drivers for the new WiFi card beforehand.

Or if you have an Android phone, you can download them there and transfer via USB.

Yep, you can do it. Before swapping, delete all paired Bluetooth devices—after the swap, they might not be removable.
I recently replaced my HP Envy X360’s WiFi card with the AX210. Dropped it right in, just updated drivers, and it worked fine.

Just a heads-up, check if your BIOS is locked to your current hardware. Lenovo loves to do that.

How can you check and change it if that’s the case?

Honestly, it’s trial and error. Never managed to fully bypass it myself, sorry!

Wow, I’ve got the same laptop and exact same WiFi issues. Makes sense now!

Yeah, looks like a common issue with this model’s WiFi card. Works fine on Ethernet, but I can’t always use a cable when gaming.

Make sure to download the new drivers before replacing the card!

MediaTek WiFi is the worst. I only use Intel cards now; my last upgrade was to AX200s.

I’ve got an AX200, and I still get lag and packet loss in games, but that might just be my Internet.

Have you updated the drivers? Windows drivers had bugs early on.

Is Lenovo still whitelisting WiFi cards in their firmware?
