Good laptop? 980 usd

No very bad value.

First Lenovo Ideapad isn’t a great option, it doesn’t offer a good built quality.

Send with this price ( based on US prices) you can go for the higher end Lenovo gaming laptop Lenov Leion.
the good budget option in lenovo is Lenov LOQ.

Overall its not a bad machine, but its a bad value, basically its an entry machine, not ideal for gaming, and there are better options at lower price.
you can google this particular model at the Lenovo subreddit, to see others opinion

@Charlie
Would you say a victus rtx 3050,i5 12450H for 750 USD is better value? Laptops here are at mostly a 35% markup over US msrp

Victus goes on discounts everyt 2 month in the US you can get this Victus for $450
check my post: https://www.reddit.com/r/laptops/comments/1grvouq/some_of_you_might_like_that_seems_like_a_good/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

and Lenovo LOQ in the US goes on discount for $600

both are ok midrange / budget gamer laptops.

and Victus at 500
or Lenovo LOQ at 600
for the same specs reflect the difference in their build quality.

@Charlie
Sadly where, I live, stuff is sold at huge markup due to being far away from any factory and sellers having high profits, so only the prices Mentioned are the ones available. So it’s more of a this or that thing. And asking if the laptop has glaring issues

Also you can consider looking for something lower specs and upgrading it yourself,
you can easily upgrade the ram and SSD.

the good thing about gaming laptops is they usually have 2 slots for both.

@Charlie
All cheaper laptops carry older and weaker CPUs and GPUs tho and correct me if im wrong I don’t think you can upgrade those in a laptop, right?

yeah you are right.

It depends as well on your application, sometimes there are big difference between certain CPU’s/ GPUs.

I guess it depends on how overpriced laptops are in your country. That’s pretty good specs for a used laptop, but that’s not even that great of a price in the US NEW, much less used. But again, no idea what country that currency pictured is from, so it COULD be good value for you.

@Zayne
Laptops over here are mostly at a 30%-40% mark up over US price, is it still that bad of a deal?

That would put it at about $700-750 without markup, that’s still overpriced for used. That’d be a good price if it were being sold new for those specs, but used that’s still a good $100-$150 too high at 30-40% markup.

@Zayne
It’s not used lol, it’s just a display piece. Would you still say it’s a bad deal. Keeping in mind that the collection is very limited and the cheapest legion laptop sells for 1300 USD here

Oh, for some reason I thought I remembered reading used in your original description.

Ummm, in that case, I guess it’s not a bad price for your area. Still not a GREAT price by any way, but not bad.

@Zayne
I get that, but I have to make do with my are and mostly wanted to make sure the laptop itself isn’t bad, like are there any glaring issues with it? Other than the build quality which if it’s like the normal ideapad 3, I don’t find bad

@Shannon
No, the 7735HS is actually a great CPU. 8 cores, 16 threads, good performance, but with agressively setting power savings is actually capable of decent efficiency. If you’re out and about, it even has a RX680M iGP and will still be able to play most modern games at extremely limited settings.

The 4050 certainly isn’t a gaming powerhouse, but gets the job done better than any iGP yet released. And blows the prior generation 3050 out of the water in performance and efficiency.

The 16GB ram is somewhat limiting, and probably soldered, but it’s sufficient.

@Zayne
Looks like it’s much better value than my other options then! Ram isn’t soldered too so might upgrade in the future

In that case, just went up a notch IMO. Yeah, if you have the option to upgrade to 32GB, then it’s suddenly pretty good option. Capable of reasonable gaming while plugged in, can be set to get reasonably decent-ish battery life (for a gaming laptop) when out and about without COMPLLETELY abandoning the ability to play games on battery.

The CPU is slow considering the price, the chassis of the laptop is budget, if it were a Legion then it would have been more tolerable. The RTX 4050 6GB is unfortunately not worth it at this price.

The cheapest legion 5 here is 1300 USD so considerably more expensive
