How do I fix my laptop's broken frame?

When trying to fix an earlier issue with my laptop (refer to my first post in this forum), this happened. The frame is completely messed up! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, it might be time to move on and upgrade. That left hinge looks completely busted.

If the rest of the laptop works, you could get a similar model for parts and replace the broken components.

Forgot to mention, the laptop is an ASUS model.

Oh right, because ASUS only makes one laptop. (Sarcasm intended!)

What?

This happened to my ASUS laptop too. Didn’t drop it or anything—it just broke. The repair shop quoted me $250 to fix the hinge. Super disappointed with ASUS quality.

Take it to a good technician. It looks like the screw has come out of its housing, and that’s not something you can fix without risking further damage.

Laptops are easy to fix. If you know how to use a screwdriver, you’re halfway there.

@Cal
The issue isn’t the screwdriver—it’s the broken screw fitting. It won’t hold even if you tighten it.

That’s why you use the screwdriver to take it apart. Then you identify what’s broken, find the replacement parts online, and reassemble it.

@Cal
Fair enough. Hopefully they can sort it out. Good luck!

You need to replace something.

Replace what? The hinge or the entire laptop?

The hinge is probably fine. The real issue is with the back cover of the screen. The metal threads for the screws are embedded in plastic, which is a weak design. Replacement parts should be affordable, though.

It’s fixable, but you’ll need the right tools. Check out some repair videos online for guidance.

Looks like this belongs in a hardware horror gallery.

This kind of hinge design should be banned.

Looks like the nut got pulled out. You should order replacement parts. Check AliExpress—they usually have them at decent prices. Order soon before shipping laws change.

Thanks for the advice! Don’t worry, I’ll figure out how to get the parts.

The hinge broke, which is common with budget laptops. Best to send it to a professional for repair.
