the hole was designed for 2 square fans that stick out, but I didn’t have anywhere to put them without clogging the intake. so they faced upwards and when closing the lid they slid inside the case.

I did something similar using the empty space from the DVD reader, however in my case the fan intake was from the bottom of the laptop, I wonder why you decided to have it in the palmrest.

but then I found a laptop fan and I didn’t bother drilling more holes
so that’s why it looks like a car hood vent.
And I thought drilling holes to use the NVME connector to connect an external GPU was overkill…
