If it helps with the thermal issues, I’d say it’s necessary. My Acer Nitro heats up a lot without proper ventilation.
That setup looks painful for the hinges; I’d recommend keeping it on a flat surface.
If you’re not worried about it toppling over or wearing out the fan, then go for it.

If the stand holds it at the same angle, the stress on the hinges would be similar. It’s the constant opening and closing that usually wears them out.

Actually, using a stand would distribute the laptop’s weight more evenly and reduce direct stress on the hinges.
