Is this normal memory usage for a laptop with 8GB RAM?

I recently formatted my laptop and noticed this memory usage. Is it normal? Thanks for any insights.

Yes, it’s normal as much of it is just cached data.

It would be useful to exclude cached RAM from the graph or to show available RAM instead. Displaying it this way makes it seem like you can’t run more programs, which might prompt unnecessary upgrades.

RAM is meant to be used. If you have a dedicated GPU, consider upgrading to an additional 8GB DDR4 3200MHz stick.

If memory usage gets too low, the PC might freeze or other problems could occur.

Yes, it’s normal.

That’s pretty typical for Windows 11. For better performance without upgrading RAM, consider dual booting with Linux or using a USB to boot Linux.

What many don’t realize is that 8GB RAM is barely enough for Windows 11, which uses almost all of it. Adding another 8GB can help significantly.

Yes, that’s normal.

If you have a free RAM slot, it might be time to use it.

8GB of RAM is almost obsolete nowadays. 16GB should be the minimum.

Windows 11 can be demanding on system resources.

You actually want your computer to use all the RAM it has for caching as it speeds up processes.

Consider setting your system to at least 16GB and use external software to check open programs, not just the task manager.

Looks normal. Windows 11 uses about 3GB just to boot to the desktop, which is more than what Linux Mint uses.

8GB is not adequate for 2025. If it’s upgradeable, you should consider it.

This is why 16GB is generally recommended today.

What kind of RTX card is paired with just 8GB of RAM? Consider upgrading to 16GB or even 32GB.

If you’re using over 2.1GB at idle, there might be bloatware running on your system.

You’re lucky; Windows 11 is a resource hog.
