Purchased a laptop from a scrap store for 1000 INR and it won't turn on. Any suggestions?

You bought a laptop for roughly $12 and it doesn’t turn on?

Actually, it’s more like $12, not $1.17.

Oops, I missed a zero there.

Where did you find this scrap laptop? I’m interested in picking up a few myself.

It’s an old model with limited capabilities. Even if you get it running, it won’t handle modern tasks well.

I only need it for watching videos and light coding, not for gaming. I plan to install Linux.

@Winslow
Even with Linux, the hardware might not handle video playback smoothly.

Is there any hope if I install Linux?

Installing Linux won’t improve the hardware’s limitations. First, you need to get the laptop to turn on.

@Joss
I’m considering externally charging the battery.

That’s risky without the proper equipment. It’s better to find the appropriate charger.

Did you try holding the power button for an extended period? It worked for my friend’s laptop.

Yes, I’ve tried that.

The specs are too low to justify repairing it.

What model is the Asus laptop? You need to identify the model to find the correct power adapter.

It’s an Asus X43U. You need a 65-watt power adapter for it.

Can I force charge the battery by connecting it directly to a 12V adapter?

Force charging the battery is not advisable as it can be dangerous.

@Jin
Why is that?

The battery could potentially explode.
