OLED is still superior to MiniLED displays. MiniLEDs have visible halos when you have a dark background and a brightly lit object. But it’s better than nothing, and it doesn’t have the burn-in issue.

I have an iPhone 11 from 2019, and just last week I noticed something odd with the brightness at high levels. The Google search bar I’ve had on the homepage for years is burnt in. I didn’t even know this could happen on a modern LCD panel, especially on an iPhone. It’s not that bad, and I can only see it on a white background when it’s really bright, but it surprised me. For MiniLED vs OLED on a laptop, I’d choose based on which one performs better in terms of power usage, since it’s a laptop.
@Shane
It’s more like image retention on LCDs. You can fix it by playing a few YouTube videos at high brightness, but it’s just temporary. Most phones I’ve had have had image retention, especially with heavy use. It happens because of poor thermal management or when the device gets old. My Xperia phone from 2016 had it, my Poco M2 Pro has it, and I had an iPhone 7 with it too, but to a lesser extent.
@Marley
Interesting. And for what it’s worth, my old Xperia Z1 Compact was my favorite phone to hold. The regular Z2 was probably the coolest for its time—in 2015, no phones shot video in 4K, but it did.

And CRT monitors are still superior to OLED.
@Alden
Especially in laptops—keeps my laptop nice and thick so I can’t misplace or lose it.
Guys, the Apple users discovering this now.

Really? Oh no.
Damn bro, got the two cousins together.

Lmao.
For years, I’ve been an ‘OLED or GTFO’ kind of guy, as I put a premium on infinite contrast and true black. Every display I have at home is an OLED (TV, monitors, tablet, phone, watch), except for my MacBook Air. Just got a new MBP to replace my MBA for work, and I brought it along with my gaming laptop (Asus G14), which has an OLED display, on my trip to visit family. The comparison is insane: the MiniLED on the MacBook has the same contrast and indistinguishable dark black levels, plus better colors. I’m blown away.
@Sam
They are amazing, but still show halos when you have anything space-related.

Just get astigmatism, then you can’t tell the difference!

Ah, that’s why I can’t tell.

I can, but I am very sensitive to lights.
It looks just like an OLED, nice. Let’s hope cheaper laptops get these panels too.
I have an MSI GE67HX with an OLED screen… And there’s no going back to another panel type.

Is that the 2022 model with the crazy 1440p 240Hz OLED? Lucky bastard.
