This laptop is listed for $2k… Do you think it’s worth it?

Definitely not worth $2k—it’s probably closer to $600. Companies often set high prices and then mark them down to make it seem like you’re getting a deal. It’s a common marketing tactic. I’ve done something similar selling on marketplace, but with smaller price differences.

Some people fall for it because they think they’re saving tons of money, but without the sale, they weren’t planning to buy the product in the first place. For others who were already planning to buy, waiting for a sale genuinely helps. Just be careful; it’s all about marketing psychology.

If it were closer to $600, would it be a good buy for office use?

For office use, if portability isn’t a priority, I’d recommend a $400 mini PC instead. Something like the Minisforum UM760 Slim for $320 would perform better and be more cost-effective.

@Lennox
The listing mentions a 3-year warranty. I can’t verify that, but it’s a good selling point if true.

@Lennox
Desktops are usually better value since comparable laptops are more expensive. But if someone needs portability, they don’t have much choice but to pay extra.

For a portable work laptop, it could be okay. However, if it’s for serious work, I’d save up for something better. A good work laptop will pay off in the long run.

A 6850H processor with no discrete GPU? Even at the discounted price, that’s a ripoff.

At $659, I wouldn’t call it a ripoff. It has solid build quality, a great keyboard and touchpad, and a strong CPU. The 6850H without a discrete GPU is unusual, but not everyone needs one.

Actually, it does have a discrete GPU—a 6500M with 4GB. The $2k price might be from its release two years ago, though its memory is soldered, so you can’t upgrade it.

@Zeek
The 6500M isn’t a discrete GPU; it’s part of the 6850H’s integrated graphics. That kind of pricing reflects the global chip shortage and past supply chain issues.

According to the listing and Lenovo’s specs, it has dedicated graphics. The integrated GPU is the 680M, while the dedicated one is the 6500M. And by the way, the term is ‘discrete,’ not ‘discreet.’

@Zeek
Alright, I made a mistake. No need to get rude about it.

It’s definitely not worth $2k.

It’s not worth $2000, but at the discounted price, it’s not terrible. Just be cautious with H-series processors—they draw 45W, so battery life will be poor. And it doesn’t have a discrete GPU, so if you need one, look elsewhere.

It might’ve been worth it when it launched. Business laptops are always expensive at release but lose value quickly. Just look at any ThinkPad on Lenovo’s site. The ThinkPad Z series is a premium lineup, so it’s no surprise it was pricey. Now they’re just clearing out stock or refurb units, hence the lower price.

The original price was too high. The current price isn’t bad, though.

Go for a Framework laptop instead. Way better than this one.

In Belgium, there’s a site that tracks sales and shows if it’s the lowest price in six months.

It might’ve been worth close to that price when it launched, but now it’s closer to $600 in value. There are probably better deals on laptops with similar or better performance.
