What’s this thing on my laptop… anyone know?

Just noticed this small slot on my laptop today… does anyone know what it’s for?

If I had a penny for every time someone asked, “what’s a Kensington lock?”…

I’ve seen two posts about it just today!

Feels like this question just keeps coming back… like it’s on a loop or something.

We should start calling it a ‘hyper port’ just for laughs.

USB-K prototype, anyone? :joy:

@Zander
It’s actually a water cooling refill port—just pour water in every 3 months to keep the cooling going.

Haha, that’s a wicked idea! Love it.

I thought it was the ‘read your manual’ slot?

@Jo
Honestly, most devices with it also come with a manual showing what it is in the first few pages. Reading the manual could help.

@Jo
Objection! Even without a physical manual, most of them are available online. A quick search could save the day!

@Jo
Okay, well, the lock slot actually has a symbol—a little “K” near it. A quick search for ‘K lock symbol’ usually gives you what you need.

@Jo
Haha, guess we’ll just have to ask on this forum then!

So what’s the answer? Don’t keep us waiting!

It’s called a Kensington lock. It’s a security feature that lets you lock the device to something solid, like a desk, to prevent theft.

It’s for a Kensington lock.

It’s the ‘smash it if you want to steal it’ port.

Kensington lock—it’s an anti-theft feature. Mostly used in offices, though.

Funny thing… I was just talking about getting one of these with my brother, and then I see this!

Maybe your phone is listening? Or just a funny coincidence?
