Sometimes I have power cuts, so I take my laptop to coworking spaces when electricity is off most of the day.

South Africa?
I mainly use it for work and travel, but sometimes it’s just handy to have for those unexpected moments. Like if I’m away from home but need to work the next day, I can just stay where I am and work remotely. Plus, LAN parties with friends are fun! Overall, it’s really up to your lifestyle. I wouldn’t want to lose that portability, even if I use it at home 90% of the time.
@Shay
Yeah, in my case, it’d be at home 99% of the time, but I’d hate to miss that 1% if I needed it in the future. Just can’t justify paying double for that chance.
It depends on your needs. I use mine mostly at home but love moving it around the house. I even take it to the basement when working on hobby projects. For me, it’s about versatility. But if portability isn’t a big factor, you might be better off with a desktop.
It’s nice being able to switch spots at home, like moving to the couch for light tasks. But if you’re gaming, a desktop would probably be better.

I used to build desktops but like the portability of a laptop now. My gaming laptop serves as my main setup, and I’m looking into a cheaper one for on-the-go work. Lots of options these days.

Yeah, though laptops cost double for similar performance, and if I’m home, I’d still use external monitors and keyboard. I’d need to be sure about portability to make it worth the price.
It’s nice to just use it casually on the couch sometimes, but honestly, I use my phone for most quick look-ups now.
I’m a consultant and travel a lot. It’s great for airport downtime, gaming in hotels, and even taking it to gaming events like QuakeCon. At home, I can move between my desk with a monitor or chill in other rooms. It’s super convenient for VR too. Definitely more flexible than a desktop!
If you’re considering both, think about your actual use case. I travel and work a lot, so my laptop is essential for working on the go. It’s also nice at home when I want to relax away from my desk. But if you’re gaming, a desktop might be better.
For cheap laptops, check eBay.
Go for a laptop only if you actually need one. Desktop is better in the long run, and phones or tablets can handle most portable needs without the expense of a laptop.

That’s why I’m asking! If I had a laptop, I’d probably use an external keyboard and monitor at home anyway. But if my situation changes and I need a portable computer, I might regret not getting one.
