Anyone else getting wear on their laptop from resting their hands…

I’ve noticed my laptop has these marks where I rest my palms… anyone else have this happen?

Sounds like a classic laptop user struggle!

Yeah, seen it happen. My friend’s MacBook Air has worn-off keys; it’s wild.

How does he even manage that? Is he smashing down on them or what?

I think it’s just years of typing. It’s one of the older models.

@Ocean
My 8-year-old MacBook Air’s keys still look good! Your friend must really be pounding those keys.

@Ocean
Maybe a bit of OCD? I used to press keys repetitively, and some wore off over time.

Over time, friction just wears the paint off; it’s just a thin layer.

@Kitt
My folks got me keycaps where the font is a separate piece of plastic. They’re kinda handmade but feel great.

Guess it’s bound to happen if you’re on the keyboard more than the trackpad.

Probably from oily fingers?

Could be the acidity in sweat too. Diet affects the pH and can wear things down faster.

@Nico
That makes sense! I think he might have had some skin issues as well.

A well-used laptop shows character! Sounds like it’s seen some action.

Probably from oils in your hands wearing down the surface.

Saw one where the aluminum itself was worn down on the palm rests; it looked pretty crazy.

Yeah, aluminum can get worn down like that. Doesn’t take much to discolor or rust.

Time to wash those hands a bit more!

Typical HP experience, right?

Meanwhile, ThinkPads survive anything thrown at them.
