Help with unusual marks on my PC screen

Looks like backlight bleed.

That’s a common issue called backlight bleed. It’s not typically a critical defect.

Is this a normal occurrence? Thanks for the info!

It’s uncommon for brand new laptops to have significant backlight bleed. You might want to check the return policy.

@Nyle
It’s a brand-new laptop. Support suggested it was due to damage and offered a paid repair. Here’s their message: ‘Please be aware that these marks are not normal and are due to either pressing on the slab or moisture. Your warranty doesn’t cover accidental damage. We can offer a chargeable repair for €29.00 plus VAT.’ Should I pay for this?

@Hadi
Don’t pay for the repair if it arrived like that. It sounds like they’re blaming you for the damage.

@Hadi
I had a similar issue with an ASUS TUF. Return it ASAP and inspect a new unit in person if you can. It should fall under a standard return policy rather than a warranty claim.

@Hadi
Backlight bleed is actually pretty common even on new laptops, especially with IPS screens. It varies from one unit to another.

@Nyle
Backlight bleed is typical with IPS and TN panels.

@Nyle
Backlight bleed can happen, especially depending on the screen type and quality.

However, higher-quality IPS screens like those on Thinkpads usually don’t have noticeable backlight bleed.

@Nyle
It’s somewhat luck of the draw with these screens.

@Nyle
How common is it to get a new laptop with this issue? I have it as well.

Is this a Lenovo laptop? I have some specific questions, can I contact you directly?

Funny, I swiped to the next picture thinking it was a slideshow!

It’s a typical issue known as backlight bleed. It’s not a concern unless it worsens over time.

Backlight bleeding is common and may appear to shift when you clean the screen or apply pressure to it. This suggests handling the screen mostly by the edges when opening or closing it.

It’s a brand-new computer; just got it.

@Hadi
I experienced the same with my new monitor. Try to avoid using the laptop in a dark room at maximum brightness. It’s generally nothing to worry about.
