How do you clean a screen that looks like this?

I’ve tried different types of clothes and wet clothes but none of them seem to work.

Anti-static or lint-free cloth SLIGHTLY dampened with water.

For weekly wipedowns, a damp cloth works fine. For deeper cleaning I prefer single use wipes for glasses.

That’s alcohol right? Is it not bad for the screen?

The ones I use specify ‘alcohol and ammonia free’, there is no indication on the packaging what it actually is though, other than ‘Antimicrobial’. They are the cheapest brand of glasses-wipes available. I do not think it is water, as it dries way faster than I would expect.

Isopropyl alcohol shouldn’t be used on the actual display panel, but should be fine if your laptop’s design places a clear plastic protective layer in front. Pre-packaged wipes are also a better choice here because they should have just the right amount of cleaner/solvent and no more.

@Cody
Why tho? Does it remove the anti-glare coating or something?

Step 1: Learn to cover mouth and nose when sneezing. Step 2: Clean up before it gets to this point.

You forgot to mention… oh never mind.

Damp napkin…

That will scratch the screen! You need a microfiber cloth.

What kind of napkins are you using? Paper towel is fine. I do it on my MacBook screen all the time then wipe with microfiber cloth.

@Cameron
Napkins can have stuff stuck to them way easier and are riskier compared to a good microfiber cloth. Also, you should never clean in circular motions as that makes the scratches way more visible.

They make screen wipes…

80% Soft water + 20% glass cleaning solution. Microfiber cloth. Do clean your screen at least twice a week.

Slightly damp lint-free cloth. Gently wipe down. If that doesn’t work, use a 50/50 mix of water and Isopropyl Alcohol on the cloth and try again. You never want to have the cloth dripping wet. Only slightly damp.

Spray bottle with water, spray 1 or 2 times on a cloth (not on the screen to avoid water damage) and use this to clean it. No alcohol since it may damage plastics (and/or destroy any anti-glare coating that it may have).

Microfiber + window cleaner (make sure to spray on the cloth and not the screen to avoid water damage).

You shouldn’t use window cleaner on the actual LCD panel, but it’s probably okay here since OP’s laptop appears to have a protective plastic layer in front of the screen. I would recommend avoiding Windex in general and any window cleaner containing ammonia or alcohol.
